Koffee with Kenya: Sunday Edition

Every day is a good day for coffee and creating.

“I Have Put My Words in Your Mouth” – Jeremiah 1:9

Happy Sunday!

For me, Sunday is sacred. It’s a day I intentionally nurture my spirit, reflect, and prepare for the week ahead. It’s a day to sip my coffee slowly, let my thoughts settle, and hear from God in the quiet moments. Today, I want to share a scripture that is a constant reminder for me on my leadership journey:

Jeremiah 1:9 “Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, ‘I have put my words in your mouth."

This verse reminds me that the words we speak, our ideas, our encouragement, our truth are not random. They are intentional. They are divine.

When I first started on my corporate leadership journey, I remember being apprehensive and nervous to speak up and to speak out. I would literally feel a lump in my throat. Fast forward more than two decades later, I was talking to my daughter around her freshman year in college, asking her what part of her body tenses up the most when she wants to say something but gets nervous. She said her throat. When she described what it felt like to her, it was the exact same experience I used to have. The conversation with my daughter underscored for me the powerful role that our voice plays in leadership, love, change, and liberation.

As a leader of leaders, I spend much of my time working with leaders in their most difficult leadership moments, helping them get clear on what they want to say, what they should say, what they will say, and how they will say it.

What I know for sure is that your voice is the connector, the conduit, and a compass for others. God has placed something in each of us that only we can express.

That includes you, Sister.

Think about it: Your voice carries your unique perspective, your lived experiences, and your God-given wisdom. You were made to lead with it, to inspire with it, to influence with it. And too often, we underestimate its power. We worry about saying the wrong thing, about being judged, or about not having enough to offer. But God’s Word reminds us that He has already equipped us. The words you need to say, at work, at home, in your community are already inside you.

In just four days, I have the honor of leading my fifth Women’s Leadership Retreat, where we will explore the depths of the POWER Skill: Your Unique Voice. I’ll also be hosting a Women’s Leadership Summit in Barbados, introducing local women leaders to this same leadership skill, empowering them to step fully into their voice, influence, and purpose.

I also have several speaking engagements between now and the end of the year. Before I get on any stage, I recite the words of one of my favorite female rappers, EVE: “I promise every time I touch the mic to bless’em,” because I know the power of my voice.

These experiences are a vivid reminder that when we speak with intention and courage, we are leading with both spirit and strategy.

So today, as I sit with my coffee, I am reflecting on the assignment that has been entrusted to me this week in Barbados. My reflection questions are: What does it mean to steward the words God has given me? Am I speaking with intention? Am I encouraging others? Am I leading with clarity, wisdom, and grace?

But here is what I want you to know: Sisters, your words matter. Your voice matters.

Let’s not shrink back or silence ourselves. Let’s speak with courage, knowing that God has placed those words in our mouths for a reason. Let’s use them to build, to uplift, and to lead in alignment with God’s purpose.

Take a moment today to reflect: What words has God placed in your mouth? How can you speak them boldly, wisely, and intentionally this week?

I encourage you to take this Sunday to nurture your spirit, sip your coffee slowly, and remember that your voice is powerful, purposeful, and divinely appointed.

With love and intentionality,

Kenya Dunn

Kenya, I enjoin your prayers with mine for you right now as you're on leadership retreat in fab Barbados with those on whom I'm counting on for my grandson's future. I ask each waking morning for The Lord to speak and act in and thru me. Gratefully He normally gives me a name with whom to connect or to take a short step out to be His voice in the foot long, lamp lit path I need to go. If only we each can incorporate into our being that we need not be anxious but to step boldly... You are the embodiment of the boldness we each must emulate. Thank you.
